Electric Mercedes-Benz GLC marks start of new iconic design era
Mercedes-Benz introduces its next-generation electric GLC featuring a futuristic reinterpretation of the iconic grille. Official debut set for September 7, 2025, in Munich.
Mercedes-Benz is stepping into a new era of iconic design, and leading this transformation is the all-new fully electric GLC. Scheduled to make its debut at the IAA Mobility show in Munich on September 7, 2025, the model aims to preserve the heritage of the brand while introducing a fresh, modern look.
The highlight is a reimagined signature grille featuring a wide chrome frame, smoked-glass-style lattice structure, and contour lighting. An optional high-tech setup with 942 backlit pixels can create animations, bringing the vehicle’s face to life. Designers drew inspiration from the classic 1960s 300 SEL 6.3 but reinterpreted it with a minimalist, technology-driven approach. This evolution keeps the unmistakable Mercedes-Benz DNA instantly recognizable.
The GLC EV marks the launch of MB.OS, a new software architecture set to become the foundation of future electric models. Built on the MB.EA electric platform, it supports 800-volt charging technology, offering a WLTP range of up to 650 km. Fast-charging capabilities allow for approximately 260 km of additional range in just 10 minutes.
Inside, the redesigned MBUX Hyperscreen offers a seamlessly integrated digital interface, enhancing comfort and intuitive use. This continues the brand’s Sensual Purity philosophy while introducing a cleaner, more technologically advanced aesthetic.
Replacing the EQC, the GLC EV is expected to compete with the Porsche Macan and BMW iX3 in the midsize electric SUV segment, potentially strengthening Mercedes-Benz’s market position. Exact pricing and sales projections remain undisclosed, though analysts anticipate a starting price above that of current internal combustion models.
According to Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener, the new grille “doesn’t just give the GLC a new front—it redefines the face of our brand.” By blending heritage with futuristic design elements, Mercedes-Benz aims to make its next-generation vehicles unmistakably recognizable.
