Mercedes-Benz presents the electric CLA Shooting Brake with up to 769 km range, fast charging and new MMA platform. Explore key specs and features.

A fully electric estate with a range of up to 769 kilometres marks a turning point for Mercedes-Benz, as the brand brings the Shooting Brake concept into the electric era for the first time. The new CLA Shooting Brake becomes both the second model in the new CLA family and the first electric estate in the company’s history.

The car blends the familiar sporty proportions of the CLA with increased practicality. Boot capacity ranges from 455 to 1,290 litres, complemented by a 101-litre front compartment. It is designed not only for daily use but also for longer trips, with roof load capacity of 75 kilograms and towing capability of up to 1,800 kilograms — figures that remain uncommon among electric vehicles in this segment.

Efficiency sits at the core of the model. The CLA 250+ version delivers a WLTP range of up to 769 kilometres, while its 800-volt architecture enables rapid charging of up to 320 kilometres in around 10 minutes under optimal conditions. This performance is linked to a new battery design that incorporates silicon oxide in the anode, increasing energy density and supporting both range and charging speed.

The model is built on the new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA), designed for both electric and hybrid drivetrains. This platform will underpin an entire generation of upcoming vehicles, reducing production complexity and enabling broader scalability of new technologies across the lineup.

Technically, the CLA Shooting Brake introduces features not commonly seen in this class. Its rear electric drive uses a two-speed transmission, with the first gear optimised for acceleration and the second for efficiency at higher speeds. Regenerative braking plays a central role, with recuperation output reaching up to 200 kW, allowing most deceleration processes to be handled electrically.

Inside, the focus shifts toward a digital experience. The MB.OS operating system connects the vehicle to the cloud, enabling over-the-air updates for both infotainment and core vehicle functions. The latest MBUX system integrates artificial intelligence from Microsoft and Google, allowing the virtual assistant to hold conversations, retain context and access real-time online information.

Design details reinforce the model’s identity. The panoramic roof with SKY CONTROL can switch transparency within milliseconds and features 158 integrated illuminated stars. At night, this creates a distinct visual atmosphere inside the cabin, reflecting a broader shift toward more expressive electric vehicle design.

The CLA Shooting Brake has been available in Europe since March 2026 in several versions, including the rear-wheel-drive CLA 200 and CLA 250+, as well as the all-wheel-drive CLA 350 4MATIC. A 48-volt hybrid variant is also offered, underlining Mercedes-Benz’s strategy of maintaining flexibility in powertrain options depending on market demand.

With this model, Mercedes-Benz redefines the role of the estate car. Instead of focusing solely on practicality, the CLA Shooting Brake emphasises range, charging performance and digital integration, effectively repositioning the Shooting Brake concept for a new generation of electric mobility.
