Rolls-Royce Celebrates Phantom Centenary with Historic Display at Goodwood
Rolls-Royce showcases five iconic Phantoms at Goodwood Revival 2025, celebrating 100 years of the legendary model with displays and on-track appearances.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars marked the centenary of its flagship Phantom at Goodwood Revival 2025, transforming the Aerodrome Lawn into a living time capsule. Five remarkable Phantoms, each representing a key moment in the model’s evolution, formed the centerpiece of the celebration.
The display featured the Phantom I Brougham De Ville, known as the “Phantom of Love,” whose interior resembles an 18th-century salon more than a car cabin: Aubusson tapestries, a hand-painted gilded ceiling, antique clocks and vases. Beside it stood the rare Phantom II Continental Touring Park Ward, commissioned by American industrialist A. Y. Gowen and designed for high-speed touring across Europe.
Visitors also encountered the Phantom III, the first Rolls-Royce to carry a V12 engine, a car with a rich ownership history including years in the United States before a comprehensive restoration. Equally striking was the Phantom IV Landaulette – one of only 18 ever built, reserved exclusively for royalty and heads of state, and still used by the British royal family on state occasions. Completing the lineup was a 1964 Phantom V with James Young coachwork, originally ordered for Lord Marks, chairman of Marks & Spencer.
The Revival atmosphere was amplified by regular on-track appearances: four Phantom course cars ran between races on the legendary Goodwood Motor Circuit, showcasing the power and refinement that earned Phantom its reputation as “the best car in the world.”
The centenary of Phantom is being celebrated throughout 2025. Every Phantom produced this year carries a special centenary chassis plaque. Earlier in the year, Rolls-Royce revealed the one-off Phantom Goldfinger at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este as part of the festivities.
Goodwood Revival draws more than 150,000 visitors over three days, and this anniversary display was among the event’s highlights. It served not only as a tribute to Phantom’s heritage but also as a reminder of its future – Rolls-Royce continues production of the Phantom VIII and promises ever more personalized Bespoke commissions.
