Volkswagen ID.3 GTX Premieres with 326 HP and Fresh Design
Volkswagen presents the 2025 ID.3 GTX at Chengdu Motor Show with 326 hp, rear-wheel drive, 600 km range and improved interior. Learn about key upgrades.
The Volkswagen ID.3 GTX is more than just another trim level — it feels like a reinvention of the electric hatchback. Its debut at the Chengdu Motor Show 2025 drew plenty of attention from visitors and journalists, signaling Volkswagen’s intent to give the ID.3 a fresh sense of purpose.
Under the skin sits a 326-horsepower motor powering the rear wheels, delivering a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 5.7 seconds. The adaptive chassis control with 15 settings lets you flip between comfort and sharpness at will, making the car equally at home cruising through the city or carving up winding backroads. The low center of gravity and well-tuned suspension keep it planted, even over imperfect surfaces, while the rear-drive setup adds a hint of playfulness.
Inside, Volkswagen has clearly been listening. The GTX gets better materials, one-piece sport seats with red stitching, and a dedicated GTX steering wheel, all of which lift the cabin’s atmosphere. The panoramic roof floods the space with light, and rear-seat passengers enjoy more room than you might expect from a compact EV.
It’s not perfect — the haptic controls still split opinion, one-pedal driving remains absent, and there’s no way to fully disable ESC. Enthusiasts might find the Cupra Born VZ slightly more engaging, but the ID.3 GTX counters with a more understated look and a calmer, more balanced personality.
At around €39,000, the GTX comes well-equipped out of the box, with rapid charging (10–80% in just 26 minutes at 185 kW) and impressively low running costs. It may not be a Golf GTI replacement, but it offers plenty of thrills for everyday driving — and with its Chengdu Motor Show debut, it marks a new chapter for Volkswagen’s sporty EVs.
