Updated BMW 7 Series facelift revealed by Autogefühl, covering design, interior tech, engines and i7 upgrades. Explore key changes and features in detail.

The updated BMW 7 Series arrives without unnecessary drama, yet with a clear intention to reinforce its position in the luxury sedan segment. The facelift makes the car appear less provocative, but it hasn’t lost its character—instead, it feels more refined and balanced.

The most noticeable change is the redesigned kidney grille. It remains large and illuminated, but now appears less aggressive, as if the designers intentionally toned down its visual impact. A distinctive “valley” indentation at the front is echoed at the rear, creating a subtle visual connection across the car.

The lighting setup follows a split design: crystalline daytime running lights sit above, while the Matrix LED headlamps are positioned lower. Regardless of whether it’s a combustion, hybrid, or fully electric version, the overall exterior look remains consistent.

From the side, the sedan keeps its classic proportions, stretching over 5.3 meters in length. Wheel sizes range from 20 to 22 inches, and two-tone paint options add complexity to the production process.

The rear design has been significantly refined. Wider taillights enhance the car’s visual width, while the trunk is now more seamlessly integrated into the body, avoiding the “attached” look of the previous version.

Under the hood, a wide range of powertrains is available. The 740 xDrive features a six-cylinder engine with around 400 horsepower and accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. Diesel engines, plug-in hybrids, and the fully electric i7 are also part of the lineup.

The i7 benefits from a larger 112.5 kWh battery, increasing its overall range. However, the car still uses a 400-volt architecture, with DC charging up to 250 kW, allowing a 10–80% charge in approximately 29 minutes.

The interior is where the transformation becomes most evident. BMW introduces a new digital layout inspired by the Neue Klasse concept. The Panoramic Vision system places key information closer to the driver’s line of sight, while the main display sits deeper within the dashboard.

This unconventional layout may take time to get used to, but it follows a clear functional logic, reducing distraction and improving visibility of essential data.

A dedicated passenger display is integrated in a way that minimizes distraction for the driver, yet remains easily accessible for front-seat occupants.

Comfort continues to be a strong point. The seats are soft and deeply cushioned, while the rear offers a true executive experience. In its most advanced configuration, passengers can almost fully stretch their legs—something rarely achieved even in this class.

The rear entertainment system has also been upgraded. The Theatre Screen now features new software and allows direct access to online content, including video streaming, without relying on external devices.

Audio is delivered through a Bowers & Wilkins system with 36 speakers, including a 4D sound function that transmits vibrations through the seats.

Compared to the Mercedes S-Class, the BMW 7 Series leans more toward a futuristic and technology-driven interior, while its rival maintains a more traditional approach. At the same time, the seating comfort—especially in the rear—may even surpass that of the S-Class.

Ultimately, this facelift is not about reinvention but refinement. The 7 Series becomes less extravagant, yet more mature—focusing on technology, comfort, and a carefully measured evolution.
