Volkswagen ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE combines heritage, music and design
Volkswagen launches limited ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE edition with 240 kW, special design by BOGNER, and soundtrack by Purple Disco Machine and Jake Shears.
Volkswagen has brought back the legendary “Fire and Ice” theme, this time in an all-electric form. The carmaker unveiled the limited-run ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE — just 1,990 units will be built, a nod to the year the original Golf Fire & Ice appeared. The model is both nostalgic and technically ambitious: 240 kW of power, 0–100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, up to 591 km WLTP range and rapid charging from 10 to 80% in around 26 minutes.
The collaboration with BOGNER FIRE+ICE turns the car into a fashion statement. Exclusive Ultra Violet Metallic paintwork, red and blue accents symbolizing fire and ice, a matte C-pillar graphic and 20-inch Locarno wheels give it a striking presence. Inside, the cabin plays with contrasts — red highlights on the driver’s side, cool blue on the passenger side, quilted seats reminiscent of down jackets, and a prominent FIRE+ICE logo at the center.
The launch is accompanied by the new track “Fire + Ice,” recorded by Purple Disco Machine featuring Jake Shears. Released on September 5, 2025 under Columbia Local, the song reimagines the iconic theme from Willy Bogner’s 1986 film. The official music video bridges past and present, featuring both the classic Golf 2 Fire & Ice and its electric successor.
Orders for the special edition opened on July 9, 2025 across Europe, with UK order books following on August 7. Prices start at €56,020 in Germany and £48,360 in the UK.
The historical significance of the name makes this edition more than just a car. The Golf 2 Fire & Ice, developed with Willy Bogner in 1990, became a pop-culture icon of its era. Now Volkswagen is tapping into that emotion again, blending heritage, fashion and music to recharge its cultural image and capture the spirit of the 1990s for a new generation.
