Lexus has unveiled the refreshed 2026 IS, focusing on pure driving pleasure and a carefully tuned balance between sportiness and comfort. The sedan will now be offered exclusively as the IS 350, available in two trims – F SPORT Design and F SPORT – signaling a shift toward a more performance-oriented identity. This move effectively retires the four-cylinder IS 300 and the V8-powered IS 500, leaving the proven 3.5-liter V6 with 311 hp as the sole powertrain.
The exterior receives subtle but meaningful updates: a redesigned front end emphasizes the car’s low center of gravity and wide stance, while newly styled 19-inch wheels complete the look. The F SPORT trim adds a new rear spoiler that improves aerodynamics and offers optional red brake calipers, giving the car a sharper, more assertive presence. A new gray paint color joins the lineup, designed to convey a sense of motion even at rest.
Inside, the cabin is now even more driver-focused. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster sits directly in the driver’s line of sight, complemented by a matching 12.3-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen for infotainment. The newly developed “Forged Bamboo” trim enhances the sporty feel, while the F SPORT model can be specified with a striking Radiant Red interior. A 10-speaker Lexus Premium Sound system is standard, with an optional 17-speaker Mark Levinson system for those seeking an immersive listening experience.
Engineers have refined the electric power steering and adaptive suspension to deliver more linear responses and a natural connection between driver and machine. Lexus notes that the goal was to create a seamless flow between acceleration, cornering, and braking rather than simply chase performance figures.
Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is now standard, bringing features like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, and road sign recognition. Production of the IS continues at the Tahara plant in Japan, renowned for its build quality and precision.
Sales are set to begin in early 2026, with full specifications and pricing to be announced closer to launch. Automotive media suggest that this update could extend the model’s life cycle and keep the compact sports sedan competitive until the arrival of its next generation. All eyes are now on the first road tests, which will reveal how these updates translate to real-world driving dynamics.
