A fire at a Tesla dealership in France destroyed 12 cars, with police suspecting arson. The incident comes amid growing protests against Elon Musk and Tesla. Read the full report.

On the night of March 3, a fire broke out at a Tesla dealership in Plaisance-du-Touch, near Toulouse, France, engulfing twelve Tesla vehicles. Eight cars were completely destroyed, while four others sustained severe damage. Initial damage estimates exceed €700,000. Police are investigating arson as the probable cause, as a hole was found in the perimeter fence, and Tesla has recently been targeted by threats and protests.

This incident is not an isolated event. In recent weeks, protests against Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk, have spread across Europe and the United States. In New York, a protest at a Tesla event resulted in nine arrests. The discontent extends beyond business-related concerns—many protesters are reacting to Musk’s outspoken political stances and his support for far-right politicians.

At the same time, Tesla is facing growing financial pressure. The company’s sales have plummeted in key European markets, with Sweden seeing a 42% decline, France 45%, and Norway and Denmark nearly 50%. Tesla’s stock has also taken a major hit, losing 37% of its value—an estimated $550 billion in market capitalization. Analysts suggest this decline is linked to consumer boycotts and the growing negative perception of the brand.

Despite the escalating situation, Tesla has yet to issue an official statement regarding the attacks and protests. However, the company has published posts on its official website aimed at countering misleading claims in the media. It remains unclear what steps Tesla will take to protect its facilities and repair its public image.

These developments could have long-term consequences not just for Tesla but for the entire electric vehicle industry. As the dominant player in the EV market, Tesla has set the standard for the industry. If trust in the brand continues to erode, it could slow down the broader adoption of electric vehicles and hinder infrastructure development. However, competitors like BYD are expanding their presence, offering alternative choices for consumers.

The key question now is whether Tesla can navigate this crisis and regain consumer trust—or if the political and economic turbulence will lead to a prolonged downturn for the company.
