Hyundai recalls 568,580 Palisades and thousands of IONIQ EVs in the US due to seat belt, charging port, and battery issues. Free repairs start November 10.

Hyundai has announced a major recall affecting nearly 600,000 vehicles in the US, targeting several key models. The campaign includes 2020–2025 Palisade SUVs, IONIQ 6 EVs, and a small batch of IONIQ 5 units.

The Palisade recall addresses potentially faulty seat belt buckles that may fail to latch. Hyundai estimates that about 1% of the vehicles are affected. Drivers may notice a lighter-than-usual click when fastening the belt. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), such a defect can compromise passenger safety in a crash, and owners are urged to double-check that belts are securely fastened until repairs are completed.

The IONIQ 6 issue involves a charging port door panel that can detach. Although the defect is rare, Hyundai advises owners to have their vehicles inspected and repaired free of charge by authorized dealers.

The smallest but most serious recall concerns eight IONIQ 5 models built in 2025, where improperly tightened busbar bolts inside the high-voltage battery could cause arcing and increase the risk of fire. NHTSA recommends parking these vehicles outdoors until the remedy is performed.

Owner notification letters for all three recalls will begin mailing on November 10, 2025. Repairs will be carried out at no cost, including buckle replacements, charging port panel fixes, and battery bolt retightening, with wheel alignment and tire replacement if necessary.

This campaign follows Toyota’s recent recall of nearly 591,000 vehicles in the US due to instrument cluster software failures. Together, Hyundai and Toyota have recalled over 1.1 million cars this September, highlighting a significant wave of service campaigns heading into the end of the year.

While Hyundai considers the likelihood of these defects low, safety experts emphasize prompt action. Owners can check their VIN status through NHTSA’s online tool and contact Hyundai’s hotline (1-855-371-9460) for further guidance.
