Porsche introduced Cayenne and Macan Active Editions during a 44-day road trip along China’s Highway 318, highlighting SUV versatility and brand values.

A journey lasting 44 days and covering more than 5,000 kilometers turned into far more than a test drive for Porsche. The expedition along China’s National Highway 318, stretching from Shanghai to the Tibetan border with Nepal, became both a showcase for new models and a cultural event. This legendary road, following the 30th parallel, is known for its contrasts: from the wide Yangtze plains to mountain passes soaring above 5,000 meters.

The project was designed as a relay: 12 stages ranging from two to five days, with stops that encouraged participants to explore local culture and landscapes. Customers, Porsche Club China members, journalists, and influencers from platforms like Douyin and Weibo took part, reflecting the high level of interest sparked by the campaign’s slogan, “Go everywhere, fast.”

The all-electric Macan Turbo Electric drew particular attention. Drivers praised its explosive thrust on mountain roads and stability on long stretches. The Cayenne impressed with a balance of comfort and precise steering, even on the toughest sections. The Active Edition package — stainless steel skid plate, roof rails for tents, and a 360-degree camera system — proved highly practical in the high-altitude and uneven terrain.

Choosing G318 as the stage for this expedition carried symbolic weight. Stretching 5,476 kilometers across eight provinces, the route is widely regarded as “the most beautiful road in China.” By placing it alongside other legendary Porsche journeys such as Route 66 in the United States, Iceland’s Ring Road, and Australia’s Great Ocean Road, the company highlighted its intent to connect automotive heritage with cultural and natural landmarks around the world.

The unveiling of the special editions at Auto Shanghai 2025 gave the project an additional dimension. At the exhibition, Alexander Pollich, who had just taken charge of Porsche’s operations in China, and Porsche AG CEO Oliver Blume introduced the Cayenne Active Edition and Macan Active Edition. A live broadcast of the convoy traveling Highway 318 underscored the message: when legendary cars meet legendary roads, the result is an unforgettable experience.

For Porsche, the expedition was more than a promotional initiative. It was an opportunity to emphasize the versatility of its SUVs. At a time when the Chinese market remains crucial yet has seen declining sales, such projects strengthen the brand’s relationship with its audience. Combined with the rise of the electric Macan and Porsche’s ongoing investment in eFuels, the journey reflects a future built on tradition, engineering excellence, and sustainable development.
