Chery has unveiled the Fulwin X3L 2025 hybrid SUV with a boxy retro design, powerful range extender, over 1000 km range and advanced tech features.

Chery is steadily expanding its Fulwin lineup, focusing on the fast-growing new energy vehicle market. One of the highlights of this strategy is the Fulwin X3L, a hybrid SUV that made its official debut in China in 2025. The model instantly stood out by combining a retro-inspired boxy design with cutting-edge technology, offering both ruggedness and sophistication.

The exterior of the X3L emphasizes strength and presence. Its wide stance, pronounced wheel arches, and black trim elements create a muscular profile, while vertical lighting units and an illuminated logo add a modern touch. Despite its angular shape, the SUV achieves a drag coefficient of 0.32, reflecting a balance between style and efficiency. At the rear, an electrically operated side-opening tailgate with a built-in storage compartment reminiscent of a travel backpack reinforces its off-road character.

Under the hood, the Kunpeng Super Performance C-DM hybrid system pairs a 1.5-liter turbo engine (115 kW/154 hp) with one or two electric motors, delivering up to 422 hp and 505 Nm of torque. This enables the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. Buyers can choose between two battery packs, 20.6 kWh and 33.7 kWh, offering up to 150 km of pure electric range and a combined driving distance exceeding 1,000 km. By contrast, the fully electric Fulwin X3 achieves up to 520 km on a single charge.

The X3L was designed for versatility, whether in the city or on light off-road trails. With 225 mm of ground clearance, approach and departure angles of 22° and 30°, and an intelligent all-wheel-drive system, it is well-prepared for demanding routes. The HRM rear suspension, developed by Land Rover, improves ride comfort and handling, while an optional tow bar allows the vehicle to pull up to 1.6 tons.

The cabin continues the balance of toughness and technology. A 15.6-inch touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset dominates the center console, complemented by a digital instrument cluster. The design uses clean lines but is softened with leather inserts and metallic accents. Practical touches include dual wireless charging pads, a heated and cooled storage compartment, and impressive sound insulation that keeps the interior quiet at high speeds.

Driver assistance is handled by the Falcon 500 system, which integrates cameras, radars, and ultrasonic sensors to provide Level 2 semi-autonomous features such as highway and city navigation, as well as memory parking. In a segment increasingly filled with “boxy” SUVs, these advanced functions could be decisive for buyers.

Priced between $14,000 and $22,000, the Fulwin X3L is positioned attractively in a category often dominated by premium players. Analysts note that it could spark renewed interest in compact boxy SUVs with extended range capabilities, appealing to both style-conscious and practical drivers.

In the end, the Fulwin X3L is more than just another addition to the model range. It shows how a manufacturer can successfully merge retro design cues, modern hybrid technology, and affordability. As the market shifts further toward new energy solutions, this SUV is well-placed to secure a prominent spot both in China and abroad.
