The Touareg Final Edition is offered across all trim levels with a starting price of €75,025. It retains the familiar, confident stance of the model while featuring several exclusive details. “FINAL EDITION” lettering is laser-engraved on the rear door windows and embossed on the leather gear lever. Inside, multicolour ambient lighting comes as standard on Elegance trims and above, enhancing the refined atmosphere of the cabin. High-quality materials and a balance of digital and tactile controls emphasize both modernity and comfort.

Technically, the model continues the tradition of the Touareg: exceptional comfort, powerful engines, and precise handling. Depending on the market, it is available with petrol, diesel, and hybrid powertrains, including the Touareg R eHybrid—Volkswagen’s most powerful model with 462 PS and 700 Nm of torque. The plug-in hybrid setup delivers strong performance and allows short-distance electric driving.

Off-road capability remains a hallmark of the Touareg. With adaptive air suspension, active roll stabilization, and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, the SUV performs confidently on any surface. It can tow up to 3.5 tonnes, reaffirming its reputation as both a luxury cruiser and a capable workhorse.

History of the Touareg

The story began in 2002 when Volkswagen entered the premium SUV market for the first time. The first-generation Touareg combined rugged off-road ability with the comfort of a luxury sedan. Its V10 TDI engine, producing 313 PS, was revolutionary at the time—propelling the 2.5-tonne SUV to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds while wading through 58 cm of water.

The second generation (2010–2018) introduced more aerodynamic styling and Volkswagen’s first hybrid SUV—the 3.0 V6 TSI Hybrid. This was a key step toward electrification within the brand’s lineup.

The third generation, launched in 2018, brought a digital leap forward. The Innovision Cockpit redefined Volkswagen’s interior design, while lightweight materials and advanced driver assistance systems elevated comfort and safety. The range-topping Touareg R eHybrid became the most powerful production Volkswagen ever built.

Over two decades, the Touareg earned a reputation for innovation and endurance. It triumphed in the Dakar Rally three consecutive times, played a key role in autonomous driving history with the Touareg Stanley, which won the DARPA Grand Challenge, and even towed a Boeing 747 in 2006. In 2011, a Touareg V6 TDI set a new record on the 22,750-kilometre Pan-American Highway, completing the route in just 11 days.

Looking ahead

After 2026, Volkswagen will discontinue all combustion-engine Touareg models. While the company has not yet announced a successor, several European media outlets report that an electric replacement could arrive later on the new SSP platform. This next-generation architecture is expected to integrate the brand’s most advanced software and battery technologies.

In this context, the Touareg Final Edition is more than a farewell—it is a bridge between Volkswagen’s pioneering past and its fully electric future.
