Stellantis introduces the 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 Turbo engine with 324 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, featuring racing-inspired TJI combustion for higher power and lower fuel use.

Stellantis has unveiled the new 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 Turbo engine, a compact power unit that blends racing technology with everyday efficiency. Delivering 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, it reaches the output levels of many six-cylinder engines while using 10% less fuel and producing 20% more power than the current 2.0-liter DOHC I-4.

At the heart of the design lies the Turbulent Jet Ignition (TJI) system, derived from top-tier racing. A small charge of fuel ignites inside a pre-chamber, sending hot jets into the main combustion space to ensure a faster and more complete burn. This technology, first proven in Formula 1 and high-performance road engines, enhances efficiency and allows a 12:1 compression ratio on regular 87-octane gasoline without knock.

The Hurricane 4 Turbo employs a variable-geometry turbocharger (VGT) that delivers up to 90% of peak torque from 2,600 to 5,600 rpm. Combined with a Miller Cycle strategy and dual fuel injection (port and direct), it balances power and economy across a wide rpm range. The aluminum block features thicker cylinder walls and PTWA (Plasma Transfer Wire Arc) coating — a technique adopted from aerospace manufacturing that cuts friction and improves heat transfer.

The first model to receive the new powerplant will be the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee. U.S. industry sources report that the integration of the Hurricane 4 Turbo will strengthen the SUV’s blend of performance and efficiency while preparing it for hybrid and plug-in applications. Production begins in Dundee, Michigan, with an additional line planned for Kokomo, Indiana — part of Stellantis’s ongoing investment in its North American engine facilities.
