How to extend your Skoda electric vehicle’s battery life

Skoda Auto has shared a set of recommendations designed to help electric vehicle owners extend their battery’s lifespan and make charging more efficient. While modern EVs require little maintenance, the company emphasizes that mindful charging habits can significantly improve long-term performance.

The main principle is to avoid extreme charge levels. The ideal range is between 20% and 80%, where the battery operates most stably. Skoda’s Battery Care feature helps maintain this balance by limiting charge levels and monitoring battery health. Drivers can temporarily disable it before long journeys to allow a full 100% charge if needed.

In daily use, slower AC charging is gentler on the battery, whereas DC fast charging is best reserved for long trips. Charging up to around 80% is generally most efficient, since charging speed decreases and cell stress rises beyond that point.

Temperature also plays a crucial role in charging efficiency. Preheating the battery ensures smoother and faster energy intake. In Skoda models, the navigation system can automatically warm the battery before reaching the charger, or the driver can activate the function manually via the infotainment menu.

Skoda’s digital tools make electric driving more convenient. The MySkoda app enables users to plan routes and charging stops from home, while the Powerpass service grants access to over 900,000 charging stations across Europe. Among them is the Ionity network, supporting Plug & Charge technology for seamless authentication without cards.

Experts note that these functions not only protect the battery but also make EV ownership more predictable. Skoda provides an eight-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty on its high-voltage batteries, guaranteeing at least 70% of their original capacity. Although long-term degradation data for Enyaq and Elroq batteries is not yet publicly available, the brand continues to enhance its software and is preparing to adopt solid-state battery technology in the coming years.
