Mazda presents Vision X-Coupe and Vision X-Compact concepts in Tokyo
Mazda introduced the Vision X-Coupe and Vision X-Compact at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, highlighting hybrid rotary technology and empathetic AI for future mobility.
At the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Mazda unveiled two concept vehicles that outline the company’s vision for the coming decade. Under the theme “The Joy of Driving Fuels a Sustainable Tomorrow”, the brand demonstrated how driving pleasure can evolve alongside sustainability and technological progress.
The first debut, the MAZDA VISION X-COUPE, reintroduces the rotary engine in a modern plug-in hybrid form. Its two-rotor turbo rotary engine works with an electric motor and battery, producing 510 PS. The car can travel up to 160 km in electric mode and about 800 km when combined. More than a showcase of power, it represents Mazda’s commitment to cleaner mobility: the concept runs on carbon-neutral fuel derived from microalgae and features the experimental Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture system designed to trap CO₂ as it drives. While Mazda has not announced production timelines, the presentation marks a bold step toward alternative solutions beyond traditional electrification.
The second model, the MAZDA VISION X-COMPACT, embodies Mazda’s human-centered philosophy. It merges digital sensory modeling with empathetic AI capable of natural conversation and personalized navigation suggestions, acting as a thoughtful companion rather than just a machine. The concept envisions a future where vehicles form emotional bonds with their drivers.
Together, the two Vision models reflect Mazda’s enduring values—craftsmanship, emotion, and the joy of motion—while exploring new frontiers of sustainability. Although it remains uncertain which technologies will reach production, the exhibition clearly signals Mazda’s intent to pursue a uniquely balanced path toward sustainable driving pleasure.
