Porsche has unveiled an 11 kW wireless charging system for the Cayenne Electric, enabling efficient, cable-free energy transfer and setting a new benchmark in EV convenience.

Porsche has unveiled a wireless charging system for the upcoming Cayenne Electric, a technology set to change the way electric vehicles are powered. Now, owners can simply park their car in the right spot and charging begins—no cables, plugs, or manual effort required.

The system consists of two key components: a floor-mounted charging plate and a receiver module positioned behind the front axle of the SUV. Measuring about six centimeters thick and 117 by 78 centimeters in size, the plate connects directly to the power grid and requires no wallbox. During the initial setup, the car and plate exchange encrypted data and a password to establish a secure link.

The process relies on inductive coupling: two copper coils generate an electromagnetic field to transfer energy between plate and receiver. Operating at 85 kHz and up to 11 kilowatts, the system maintains over 90 percent efficiency even with a misalignment of up to ten centimeters.

For everyday use, Porsche integrated a visual guide into the vehicle’s Surround View system. On the display, a green dot and circle help the driver align the car precisely. Once the parking brake is applied, charging starts automatically.

Safety has been a major focus. The plate features sensors that detect metal objects or motion beneath the car—charging stops immediately if, for instance, a pet or key is present. All components are shielded to contain the magnetic field and prevent overheating.

According to Porsche, charging power and time are comparable to a standard 11 kW wallbox. The unit is weatherproof, TÜV Süd certified, and meets CE and UL standards. Weighing roughly 50 kilograms, the plate is robust enough for everyday use in a garage or driveway.

Initially, the system is exclusive to the Cayenne Electric, scheduled for market launch in 2026. Porsche engineers are already working on combining wireless charging with automatic parking, envisioning a scenario where the driver simply presses a button and the car parks itself, charges, and prepares for the next journey—fully powered.
