Nissan announces that the Roox has won the 2025 RJC Car of the Year in Japan, recognized for design, comfort, and innovation by the Automotive Researchers and Journalists Conference.

Nissan has announced that its compact wagon, the Roox, has won the prestigious RJC Car of the Year 2025 award in Japan. The Automotive Researchers and Journalists Conference of Japan recognized the model for its blend of elevated visibility, user-friendly practicality, and refined driving comfort — qualities that have helped it stand out in the kei-car segment.

The Roox is the result of collaboration between Nissan and Mitsubishi through their joint venture, NMKV. From a single Nissan-developed platform, the two companies created three distinct models — the Nissan Roox, Mitsubishi eK Space, and Delica Mini — each featuring unique exterior and interior designs. This cooperative approach streamlined development costs while offering greater diversity to domestic customers.

In its latest generation, the Roox features a redesigned interior measuring 2,315 mm in length and a sliding rear bench that moves up to 320 mm. These updates make it especially well-suited for city driving and everyday family use. The cabin integrates a 12.3-inch multimedia display, an Intelligent Around View Monitor with the Invisible Hood View function, and Nissan’s advanced ProPILOT driver-assist suite.

Customers can choose between naturally aspirated and turbocharged 0.66-liter three-cylinder engines, both paired with an Xtronic CVT transmission and available in 2WD or 4WD configurations. Official consumption figures range from 19 to 24 km per liter, depending on variant and drivetrain.

The Roox remains a Japan-exclusive model, with sales beginning in autumn 2025 and prices starting at approximately 1.67 million yen, rising to around 2.35 million yen for higher-grade versions. For Nissan, the RJC recognition underscores the brand’s consistent success in designing compact urban vehicles that combine comfort, safety, and everyday efficiency.
