Honda to modernize North Carolina ATV manufacturing facility
Honda announced a $9.6 million investment to upgrade its North Carolina ATV plant, creating 18 jobs and adding in-house parts production with new eco-friendly equipment.
Honda has announced a new phase of modernization at its North Carolina Manufacturing (NCM) plant in Swepsonville, investing $9.658 million to upgrade its facilities dedicated to producing Honda all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
The key goal of this project is to bring production of critical plastic components in-house. The plant will now manufacture rear and front fenders, side covers, and toolbox lids for its ATV lineup, enhancing autonomy, reducing costs, and improving quality control.
The modernization will create 18 new jobs and offer training and upskilling opportunities for associates over the next five years. According to site lead Lynne Hedrick, the project strengthens NCM’s role as a core hub for Honda’s ATV operations in North America.
Beyond new production capabilities, the investment includes resource efficiency upgrades. The facility will introduce a new plastic pelletizer designed to recycle scrap materials and reuse them in manufacturing. Aligned with Honda’s environmental strategy, part of the equipment will transition to electric power, helping to reduce the plant’s carbon footprint.
Local officials and the business community have welcomed Honda’s decision. Ryan Moffitt, 2025 board chair of the Alamance Chamber, said the company’s continued growth and innovation are helping to advance the county’s industrial future.
Founded in 1984, the NCM plant has evolved from building lawn mowers to becoming Honda’s exclusive ATV production site in North America. Spanning nearly 650,000 square feet and representing more than $395 million in capital investment, the facility’s latest expansion reaffirms Honda’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and regional economic growth.
