Porsche Motorsport details its plan to field up to four GEN4 Formula E cars and a customer team from 2026/27, highlighting the shift in electric racing.

Porsche is expanding its commitment to electric motorsport, preparing for a significantly stronger presence in the Formula E World Championship. Beginning with the 2026/27 season, the current Manufacturers’ World Champion plans to field up to four factory cars, complemented by an additional customer team. This move reflects the brand’s intention to reinforce its role at the forefront of the series while highlighting the importance of electric racing for its future identity.

A key element of this shift will be the introduction of GEN4 technology. Porsche plans to deploy six Porsche 99X Electric cars built to the new generation’s technical standards, with power exceeding 600 kW—the largest performance leap the championship has seen. The company views the GEN4 transition as an opportunity to refine solutions that may later influence its electric production sports cars.

According to Vice President Porsche Motorsport Thomas Laudenbach, motorsport remains central to the brand’s philosophy, and Porsche aims for electric racing to play a role as defining as traditional motorsport has in past decades. He notes that Formula E offers an attractive balance between investment and return, while providing a platform to identify and nurture talent across all levels—not only among drivers.

The expansion includes establishing a second team based at the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach. It is intended to operate with a high degree of independence, creating space for parallel growth alongside the main factory program.

With the 75th anniversary of Porsche Motorsport approaching, the company emphasizes that future success stories in electric racing will stand alongside its longstanding heritage in conventional motorsport.
