Volvo EX90 receives five-star Euro NCAP safety rating
Learn how the Volvo EX90 received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, with details from Volvo Cars on crash research and key protective technologies. Read on.
The fully electric Volvo EX90 has secured its place among the safest cars of the year after earning a five-star rating in the latest round of Euro NCAP testing. The result strengthens the model’s position as a standout family SUV in the European electric vehicle segment.
Testing revealed particularly high performance in adult and child protection, two categories where the EX90 excelled. This achievement aligns with Volvo’s long-standing reputation in automotive safety, built on more than 55 years of real-world crash research and data from over 80,000 people involved in traffic accidents. This extensive knowledge base continues to shape the company’s internal safety standards, which often go beyond official requirements.
The EX90 incorporates a broad suite of protective and preventive technologies. Among them is Safe Space Technology, a system of sensors, cameras and radars that together create a detailed understanding of the vehicle’s surroundings and help anticipate potential hazards. Complementing this is the driver understanding system, named one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2024, which monitors signs of fatigue, distraction or reduced capability and can intervene before the situation becomes dangerous.
Inside the cabin, advanced occupant sensing uses highly sensitive radars capable of detecting movements as subtle as a baby’s breathing, helping prevent the accidental leaving of children in the car. This feature adds another layer of protection to the model’s already extensive safety package.
While Euro NCAP has not yet published full category-by-category scores for the EX90, the five-star rating and Volvo’s detailed description of the vehicle’s safety technologies suggest that the company continues to advance its already high standards. Given the brand’s history of consistently top-rated models, it is reasonable to expect that the EX90 may once again set a benchmark for the industry, particularly within the large electric SUV class.
