Xiaomi Reveals Plans for YU9 SUV, YU7 GT Crossover, and SU7 L Sedan

Xiaomi plans to launch three new electric models, including the YU9 SUV, YU7 GT performance crossover, and SU7 L sedan, expanding its presence in the global automotive market.

Xiaomi is preparing to take another confident step in the automotive market by expanding its lineup with three new models. After rapid sales growth and its first quarterly profit in the EV division, the company is moving into segments where it previously had no presence. The well-known SU7 and YU7 may soon be joined by the large YU9 SUV, the performance-oriented YU7 GT crossover, and the extended-wheelbase SU7 L sedan, each contributing to a broader product strategy.

The most significant shift may come with the YU9. This sizable six- or seven-seat SUV, internally referred to as Kunlun, is set to become Xiaomi’s first model equipped with an extended-range electric system. Until now, the company has focused exclusively on battery-electric vehicles, but the decision to explore EREV technology reflects changing market dynamics. As competition intensifies and family buyers prioritize range confidence, extended-range architectures have emerged as a compelling alternative. The YU9 is expected to compete directly with the Li Auto L9 and the Aito M9, both established in the premium hybrid SUV segment. CEO Lei Jun recently oversaw high-altitude testing on the Pamir Plateau, emphasizing the strategic importance of the project.

The YU7 GT brings a different kind of ambition. As a sporting evolution of the existing YU7, it has undergone multiple testing sessions at Germany’s Nürburgring circuit, suggesting a clear intention to target European markets. Positioned against models such as Tesla’s Model Y Performance, the crossover could become a crucial milestone in Xiaomi’s long-discussed plans to enter Europe. Prototypes have been spotted with upgraded braking components and widened bodywork, hinting at an engineering focus on high-speed stability and performance demands.

The third newcomer, the SU7 L, expands the SU7 family that debuted only a year earlier. Featuring a noticeably elongated body with additional length behind the B-pillar—similar to extended-wheelbase versions of the Porsche Panamera—the sedan aims to elevate rear-seat comfort and overall cabin prestige. This direction aligns with growing demand for executive EVs designed with both driver and rear passengers in mind.

Momentum behind these upcoming models is further supported by Xiaomi’s recent sales trajectory. In November, the company delivered over 46,000 vehicles, nearly doubling year-on-year results. Although slightly below October’s figures, the third quarter marked a milestone: Xiaomi recorded its first profit in the EV and AI division.

While the company has not officially confirmed launch dates for the new models, the visible fleet of prototypes, ongoing road trials, and emerging market indicators suggest a more mature and diversified automotive strategy. Xiaomi’s shift from a modest EV lineup to a multi-segment approach—from family-oriented hybrid SUVs to performance crossovers—signals its intent to evolve from an industry newcomer into a fully-fledged competitor in the global automotive landscape.
