MAN delivers first charging stations for Allianz Arena e-mobility hub
MAN Truck & Bus reports the delivery of the first charging stations for FC Bayern’s planned electric truck and bus charging park at Allianz Arena. Read more.
The MAN Christmas truck took on a new role this year, going beyond its traditional festive mission. During its annual December tour, it stopped at Munich’s Allianz Arena to deliver the first two charging stations for FC Bayern Munich’s future electric truck and bus charging park.
The project, developed jointly by MAN Truck & Bus and FC Bayern, aims to create a large public charging hub on the stadium’s southern bus parking area. Once fully completed, the site is designed to charge up to 500 electric trucks and buses per day, primarily on non-match days. In total, 30 charging points are planned, including high-power and megawatt charging solutions, with the infrastructure to be rolled out in several stages.
The Allianz Arena was chosen deliberately. The stadium offers a powerful grid connection, runs on 100 percent green electricity, and sits next to one of Europe’s most important transport hubs at the Munich-North motorway interchange. On days without matches, much of the site’s capacity remains unused, creating favorable conditions for a large-scale charging park for commercial vehicles.
The handover of the first charging stations was symbolic. They were accepted by former FC Bayern striker Claudio Pizarro on behalf of the club. MAN deliberately used its Christmas truck for the delivery, linking the project to a tradition that has seen the festively decorated vehicle visit kindergartens, schools, and social institutions for 20 years. In 2025, the truck itself is electric for the first time, based on a MAN eTGX with six battery packs and a range of up to 570 kilometers, supported by safety systems such as MAN OptiView digital mirrors and radar-based turning aids.
Beyond the stadium, the charging park is positioned as a flagship example of how existing venues with strong power infrastructure can support the decarbonisation of freight and passenger transport. The project also aligns with FC Bayern’s plans to operate its first fully electric team coach from MAN in the coming seasons, making the Allianz Arena not just a sporting landmark, but a functional node in the emerging electric transport network.
