Range Rover has presented a new hand-crafted mirror-finish paint process for Bespoke Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. Learn how the technology works.

Range Rover has introduced a new mirror-finish paint process for its Bespoke clients, marking a significant step in the brand’s approach to exterior personalisation. The hand-crafted technique delivers a glass-like surface with exceptional depth of shine, setting a new benchmark for high-gloss finishes across the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport line-up.

The mirror-finish is now applied to all Bespoke commissions featuring gloss paint. Developed as a dedicated research project, the process was designed to replicate the clarity and smoothness found in polished luxury materials such as patent leather and stone. To achieve this, Range Rover combines a thicker top-coat lacquer with extended, meticulously controlled polishing stages.

Each vehicle is processed in newly introduced specialist spray booths, added following the expansion of Range Rover Bespoke facilities in 2025. The complete procedure takes around three days and is carried out entirely by hand. Specialists spray, sand and polish the bodywork, removing approximately 15 microns of lacquer during the final stages. Surface quality is checked using a wave scan reader, allowing even minor imperfections to be detected. According to Range Rover, the new method delivers a 25 per cent increase in surface smoothness compared with previous paint techniques.

The debut of the mirror-finish comes during the busiest year ever for Range Rover’s Bespoke service. Demand for personalised commissions has continued to rise, prompting wider investment by JLR in luxury paint capabilities. Recent projects reflecting this momentum include the Range Rover Fifty-Five Edition, celebrating the original 1970 model, and the Range Rover SV Asilomar, inspired by the blue tones of California’s Monterey Bay.

The new finish is already being showcased within SV Bespoke programmes. One of the earliest examples is the Range Rover Sport SV Bespoke Nocturne, unveiled at Range Rover House Mykonos. The vehicle demonstrates how deep, complex colours can be enhanced by the mirror-like surface, reinforcing the visual impact of bespoke exterior treatments.

Range Rover emphasises that each Bespoke commission is overseen by the same craftspeople throughout the entire paint process, from arrival at the facility to final handover. Looking ahead, the brand expects the new booths to support an even wider range of complex colours, further expanding the creative scope available to clients. As personalisation continues to play a growing role in the luxury SUV segment, the mirror-finish appears set to become a defining element of Range Rover’s Bespoke offering.
