Renault Grants Free Global License for Fireman Access Innovation
Renault Group makes its Fireman Access system free for the auto industry, enabling faster EV battery fire response. Explore the global safety initiative now.
Renault Group has taken a significant step towards improving electric vehicle safety by offering a free license for its patented Fireman Access system to the entire automotive industry. Developed in close collaboration with firefighting services, this unique technology is designed to help extinguish electric vehicle battery fires quickly and efficiently.
The system features a special adhesive disk integrated into the battery housing. In the event of a fire, the water jet breaks the seal, providing direct access to the battery cells and allowing firefighters to extinguish the fire within minutes. Without this solution, the process could take hours and consume ten times more water.
Manufacturers and suppliers can now obtain a free license via Renault's dedicated platform. The only condition is that any improvements to the system must be shared with the professional community. This move demonstrates Renault's strong commitment to road safety and global cooperation in this field.
Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo emphasized that innovation in road safety is deeply rooted in the company’s DNA. He highlighted the long-standing partnership with firefighting professionals as a driving force behind the Fireman Access system, which exemplifies what can be achieved when technical expertise is combined with on-the-ground safety experience. De Meo noted that Renault is removing all barriers to ensure this technology reaches as many stakeholders as possible, in line with the company's commitment to the United Nations’ goal of making mobility safer worldwide.
Fireman Access is now installed on 100% of Renault Group's electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, including Renault, Dacia, Alpine, and Mobilize models. Over 15 years of collaboration with firefighting services, Renault has trained more than 5,000 firefighters across 19 countries, including Europe, North Africa, and Latin America.
The initiative was presented at the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Marrakech, reinforcing Renault's holistic approach to safety — from accident prevention to effective emergency response. This philosophy is embodied in the Human First program, which brings together engineers, safety experts, researchers, and rescue teams to develop life-saving solutions.
