Lucid Floor Mat Recall: Over 4,000 Units Pulled Due to Safety Concern
Lucid recalls 4,294 Air EV floor mats that could shift and block the accelerator. Learn why and what owners should do next.
Luxury EV maker Lucid has issued a recall for 4,294 all-weather floor mats designed for its Air sedan, citing a potential risk of unintended acceleration. The issue stems not from the car itself, but from the mats' design, which allows them to shift in the driver's footwell and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal's return to the idle position.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected mats lack an anchoring hole and were sold by Lucid through February 2025. While they have bottom nibs for grip, these proved insufficient to prevent movement during use.
The problem was first identified in August 2024 by a Lucid sales associate in Europe. Since then, Lucid has recorded a total of 13 instances of mat movement, though none involved actual interference with the accelerator pedal or led to any crashes. Still, the company determined the mats posed an “unreasonable risk” and initiated the recall as a precautionary measure.
Owners are advised to immediately remove the driver-side mat and will be reimbursed for the purchase. Lucid has introduced a redesigned version that includes a hole for secure anchoring to the vehicle floor, eliminating the risk of slippage.
A spokesperson for Lucid emphasized that the safety of customers and their families remains the company's top priority. The automaker has begun reaching out to affected owners to inform them of the recall and the next steps.
Launched in 2021, the Lucid Air continues to impress with its market-leading 512-mile range and ultra-fast 900-volt charging system — capable of adding 200 miles of range in just 12 minutes at a compatible DC fast charger.
