MINI Cooper Production Starts in Oxford: A New Chapter for the Iconic Brand
The Oxford plant has begun production of the redesigned MINI Cooper, with Charlie Cooper present for the first model's rollout. Discover engine options, features, and the car’s connection to its heritage.
The Oxford plant has officially begun mass production of the redesigned MINI Cooper, marking a new chapter in the legacy of the iconic British brand. The first production model rolled off the assembly line in the presence of Charlie Cooper — grandson of the legendary John Cooper, whose name is inseparably linked with MINI's motorsport heritage. This symbolic moment underscored the continuity of tradition and the bond between generations within the brand's evolution.
The production process at the Oxford facility is meticulously refined. Body components are delivered from the Swindon plant, while petrol engines come from Hams Hall. Over 1,200 robots assemble these elements into a cohesive structure before the car moves to the painting stage. The color palette includes vibrant options such as Sunny Side Yellow and the iconic British Racing Green, adding a distinctive character to each model.
Under the hood, the new MINI Cooper offers two engine options. The MINI Cooper C features a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine delivering 156 horsepower, achieving 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.7 seconds (8.0 seconds for the five-door version). For those seeking more power, the MINI Cooper S is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generating 204 horsepower, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.6 seconds. Despite their impressive performance, both models remain efficient, with fuel consumption ranging from 5.9 to 6.2 liters per 100 km and CO₂ emissions between 133 and 140 grams per kilometer.
Inside the cabin, the standout feature is a circular OLED display with a diameter of 240 mm, seamlessly integrated into the central console. This display preserves MINI's signature design while offering advanced digital functions. Key technological innovations include adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go functionality, automatic emergency braking, and a parking assistant — all designed to enhance both safety and driving pleasure.
Prospective buyers will appreciate the extensive range of trim levels and accessories. The entry-level MINI Cooper C is priced at £27,170, while the more powerful Cooper S starts at $39,600. Each vehicle undergoes a rigorous quality control process before delivery — a tradition upheld at the Oxford plant since 1959.
The launch of mass production for the new MINI Cooper is not only a milestone for the brand but also a testament to its confidence in the future. With meticulous attention to detail, advanced technology, and a commitment to sustainable development, this new model is poised to continue the MINI legacy and capture the hearts of both loyal enthusiasts and a new generation of drivers.
