Nissan plans a 2026 release for an electric city car built on the Renault Twingo platform. Affordable EV option aimed at urban mobility.

Nissan is continuing its aggressive push into the electric vehicle market with the announcement of a new city-focused EV, set to launch in 2026. The upcoming model will be based on the new Renault Twingo concept and built on the shared Ampr Small EV Platform — the same architecture that underpins the Renault 5.

This move is another step in the ongoing collaboration within the Renault-Nissan alliance, allowing both brands to leverage common technologies and streamline development. The new city EV from Nissan is expected to be priced similarly to the Renault Twingo, around £17,500. It will likely feature the same drivetrain as the entry-level Renault 5, including a 40kWh battery, 118bhp electric motor, and a range of approximately 200 miles — sufficient for urban use.

This announcement follows a series of EV rollouts from Nissan, including the next-generation LEAF, an all-electric Micra, and the upcoming electric Juke, also slated for a 2026 release. Together, these models reflect a clear strategy to reclaim ground in the electric segment by offering a variety of vehicles — from compact city cars to crossovers.

Some important questions remain unanswered, such as the final body style of the new model, its design differentiation from the Renault Twingo, and the exact production location. Still, the direction is clear: Nissan is serious about electrification and intends to compete in the most accessible and volume-driven area of the EV market.
