Ford reported that the Kuga Plug-In Hybrid was the Netherlands’ top-selling PHEV in 2025, with rising sales and strong private demand. Read the details.

Ford Kuga Plug-In Hybrid once again finished 2025 as the best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle in the Netherlands. A total of 5,023 units were registered during the year, marking a clear increase compared with 2024, when 4,123 vehicles were sold. The result confirms that Kuga has not only retained its leading position in the segment but has strengthened it in an increasingly competitive market.

One of the most notable aspects of this performance is the composition of demand. Around 30 per cent of all Ford Kuga PHEV sales in 2025 came from private buyers, excluding private-lease customers. This highlights the model’s appeal beyond fleet and business users and points to strong acceptance among individual car owners.

Practicality remains a key factor behind the success of the Kuga PHEV. With an electric driving range of up to 68–69 kilometres (WLTP), many drivers are able to complete daily commutes entirely on electric power. At the same time, the hybrid drivetrain provides flexibility for longer journeys. Another decisive advantage is towing capability: the Kuga PHEV offers a braked towing capacity of up to 2,100 kg, making it suitable for caravans, boat trailers or horseboxes.

Within the plug-in hybrid segment, the Ford Kuga continues to stand out through its blend of family-oriented design and technology. Features such as a heated windscreen, remote cabin preconditioning via the Ford app and the option of factory-fitted all-season tyres contribute to everyday comfort. The model is also set to become available with Ford BlueCruise, the brand’s hands-free, eyes-on driver assistance system for motorway driving, which previously debuted on the Mustang Mach-E.

The strong performance of the Kuga PHEV reflects a broader positive trend for Ford in the Netherlands. In 2025, the brand increased its passenger-car sales by 18 per cent, moving from 13th to 11th place in the national rankings. Alongside the Kuga, models such as the Puma and the electric Explorer also achieved top-five positions in their respective segments.

Against this backdrop, Ford continues to expand its plug-in hybrid portfolio. In addition to the Kuga, the range includes PHEV versions of the Ranger, Transit Custom, Tourneo Custom, Transit Connect and Tourneo Connect, covering both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. This broad offering underlines Ford’s intention to remain a key player in the transitional phase of electrification, where plug-in hybrids still play a significant role.
