Acura has announced a next-generation RDX with a two-motor hybrid system, signaling a major shift in the model’s evolution. Learn what the brand has confirmed.

Acura has officially confirmed the development of the next-generation RDX, which will become the brand’s first model to feature a two-motor hybrid-electric powertrain. The fourth-generation compact SUV is currently in development and is expected to reach dealerships within the next couple of years.

The upcoming RDX Hybrid represents a key step in Acura’s broader strategy to offer a balanced mix of gasoline-powered vehicles, hybrids, and fully electric models. According to the company, this approach is designed to address a wide range of customer needs as the market continues to evolve.

Ahead of the new generation’s arrival, production of the current 2026 RDX will be suspended later this year. Industry reports and previous statements from Acura indicate that the pause is tied to the end of the current model’s lifecycle and limited availability of certain key components from suppliers. A transitional gap is expected before the next-generation RDX enters production.

Acura has not yet released detailed technical specifications for the hybrid system. The company has only confirmed that it will use a two-motor hybrid-electric setup, a configuration previously utilized by Honda in other vehicles and known for automatically managing power delivery between electric drive and the internal combustion engine. Specific figures for output, battery capacity, and efficiency will be disclosed closer to launch.

The move to hybrid power carries particular significance for the RDX nameplate. Over nearly two decades and three generations, the model has recorded approximately 850,000 sales in North America. Each iteration has marked a technological milestone for Acura, from the introduction of turbocharging and SH-AWD to advanced driver-assistance systems. The fourth-generation hybrid RDX signals the next phase in that evolution as electrification becomes increasingly central to the premium compact SUV segment.
