Volvo Presents the All-Electric EX60 with 810 km Range
Volvo Cars introduces the fully electric EX60, featuring up to 810 km range, fast charging and new technology. Learn what was revealed ahead of its debut.
Volvo has been steadily building anticipation around one of its most important launches in recent years: the fully electric EX60. Over a series of announcements, the company has revealed the model piece by piece — first as a new technological flagship, then as an electric SUV with exceptional range, and finally by confirming the date of its official debut. Taken together, these elements form a clear picture of where Volvo is heading.
The EX60 is a car that was born electric. It is the brand’s first fully electric entry in the premium mid-size SUV segment and has been developed without compromise for combustion engines. At its core lies Volvo’s new SPA3 platform, an electric-only architecture that enables a lighter structure, higher efficiency and the integration of the battery directly into the body of the car.
The practical outcome of this new architecture is reflected in figures Volvo highlights repeatedly. The EX60 offers up to 810 kilometres of range under WLTP standards in an all-wheel drive configuration — the longest range of any electric Volvo to date. Charging performance is equally central to the car’s positioning: using a 400 kW fast charger, the EX60 can add up to 340 kilometres of range in around ten minutes, a stop Volvo likens to a quick coffee break rather than a long wait.
This charging performance is supported by the car’s new 800-volt electrical system and advanced battery management software. Algorithms developed by Breathe Battery Technologies continuously optimise how the battery accepts energy, keeping it within its ideal operating window across different temperatures and conditions. Alongside this, Volvo is offering a battery warranty of up to ten years, subject to market-specific terms.
Manufacturing methods also reflect the shift in thinking behind the EX60. It is the first Volvo model to use mega casting, replacing hundreds of individual components with a single high-precision cast structure. This approach reduces weight, simplifies production and contributes directly to improved efficiency and driving range.
The EX60 is also Volvo’s most technologically advanced car to date. It is the first model to launch with Google Gemini integrated from the outset, enabling natural, conversational interaction between driver and car. This AI-driven experience is powered by Volvo’s HuginCore system and a high-performance hardware stack built around solutions from NVIDIA and Qualcomm.
Importantly, Volvo presents the EX60 as a car designed to evolve. Over-the-air updates will allow the vehicle to improve over time, expanding functionality and refining safety and user experience long after delivery. Deeper integration of Gemini is planned, including more advanced interaction with the car’s sensors and cameras.
The full picture will be revealed on 21 January 2026, when Volvo unveils the EX60 during a livestreamed event in Stockholm. Based on what has already been confirmed, the EX60 is less about a single breakthrough feature and more about a carefully balanced whole — an electric car designed to make long-distance travel, fast charging and advanced technology feel natural rather than exceptional.
