Mercedes-AMG announced it will supply official FIA F1 Safety and Medical Cars at all races in 2026, continuing its long-standing role in Formula 1 safety.

From the 2026 season, Mercedes-AMG will once again become the sole supplier of the official FIA Formula 1 Safety and Medical Cars. The Affalterbach-based brand will provide the Safety Car and Medical Car at all 24 Grands Prix, as well as at the official pre-season tests in Bahrain.

The new agreement between Mercedes-AMG and the FIA marks a return to a single-supplier model, with vehicles bearing the three-pointed star present at every Formula 1 event. This development follows the conclusion of Aston Martin’s involvement after the 2025 season and underlines the FIA’s continued confidence in Mercedes-AMG’s long-standing expertise in motorsport safety.

The timing of the agreement is significant for Mercedes-AMG. In 2026, the brand will celebrate 30 years of continuous involvement in Formula 1 safety, dating back to its first Safety Car deployment at the 1996 French Grand Prix in Magny-Cours. Over three decades, 13 different Safety Car models and eight Medical Car models have been used, making the programme a permanent fixture of the championship.

In recent seasons, the role of the official Safety Car has been fulfilled by the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, while the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ serves as the Medical Car. Both vehicles are also used in Formula 2, Formula 3 and other support series. Mercedes-AMG operates a fleet of three Safety Cars and two Medical Cars, with two vehicles present and on standby at each race weekend. Maintenance and technical support are handled directly by Mercedes-AMG specialists from Affalterbach.

A familiar constant in this programme is Bernd Mayländer. The former racing driver and AMG brand ambassador has been at the wheel of the official FIA Safety Car since 2000. At the opening race of the 2026 season in Melbourne, he is set to mark his 500th Grand Prix in this role — a rare milestone in Formula 1.

For Mercedes-AMG, Formula 1 continues to serve not only as a global sporting platform but also as an extreme proving ground where performance, reliability and safety are demonstrated under the most demanding conditions. Becoming the sole supplier of FIA’s official Safety and Medical Cars from 2026 further reinforces that long-term commitment.
