Porsche Launches Series Production of the Cayenne Electric
Porsche has announced the start of Cayenne Electric production in Bratislava, highlighting in-house battery modules, flexible manufacturing and new electric technology.
Porsche has started series production of the all-electric Cayenne at its Bratislava plant, marking a decisive step in the model’s transition into the electric era. The Cayenne Electric is being built on the same production line as combustion-engine and hybrid versions, a setup designed to give the manufacturer flexibility in responding to changing market demand while maintaining a single quality standard across all powertrain types.
At the same time, Porsche is strengthening its in-house battery expertise. The Cayenne Electric uses battery modules developed entirely within the company, produced at the Porsche Smart Battery Shop in Horná Streda, around 100 kilometres from Bratislava. The manufacturing process covers cell preparation, stacking, laser welding, integration of cooling elements and comprehensive end-of-line testing under full quality control.
From a technical perspective, the Cayenne Electric pushes Porsche’s boundaries. The flagship Cayenne Turbo Electric delivers up to 850 kW (1,156 hp), making it the most powerful production Porsche to date. Its high-voltage battery with a gross capacity of 113 kWh enables a range of more than 600 kilometres (WLTP) and supports an 800-volt fast-charging architecture. A distinctive feature is the battery’s double-sided cooling system, designed to maintain the optimal temperature window more effectively.
Production infrastructure has also evolved. The Volkswagen Group’s multi-brand plant in the Devínska Nová Ves district has undergone extensive expansion, with a new platform hall at its core. This is where the skateboard-style chassis of the Cayenne Electric is assembled before the body components are added. The associated press shop, supplying body panels, ranks among the most modern and highly automated in Europe.
To ensure smooth cooperation during the ramp-up phase, Porsche has implemented a so-called resident model. A small team of Porsche AG employees is permanently based at the Bratislava site, addressing challenges directly and enabling rapid feedback between the plant and the wider organisation.
Together, these elements underline the strategic importance of the Cayenne Electric. Beyond expanding Porsche’s electric portfolio, the model serves as a cornerstone for new manufacturing concepts and deeper vertical integration in battery technology—capabilities that are set to shape the brand’s future.
