Hyundai Motor North America’s Olabisi Boyle explains how the all-new PALISADE won the 2026 NACTOY Utility Vehicle award, driven by real-world usability.

Hyundai has marked a major milestone in the U.S. market as the all-new PALISADE has been named the 2026 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY). In the fiercely competitive three-row SUV segment, where success is defined not only by capability but by everyday usability, the award signals that Hyundai’s flagship family model has struck a particularly strong chord with American buyers.

Hyundai frames the win as more than a trophy — describing it as a clear validation of how the PALISADE was developed. That message was reinforced by Olabisi Boyle, Senior Vice President of Product Planning and Mobility Strategy for Hyundai Motor North America, who emphasized that the model was shaped by real-world feedback rather than purely technical ambition. According to Boyle, the PALISADE was built around the details that matter most to families: a refined ride, confident driving feel, comfort and usability in every row, and a premium exterior presence that avoids unnecessary excess.

A key part of PALISADE’s expanded appeal comes from its broadened lineup. Hyundai highlights the addition of a high-efficiency hybrid variant designed for long-range practicality, while the rugged XRT PRO trim aims to give adventure-oriented families a more capable expression of the model’s versatility. Together, these versions position PALISADE as a vehicle meant to handle both daily routines and more demanding lifestyle use cases.

Sales momentum suggests the strategy is resonating. Hyundai reports that PALISADE delivered its best U.S. sales year ever in 2025, with retail growth of around 13 percent compared to 2024. The company adds that full-scale U.S. sales began last May, and the model surpassed 40,000 retail units in eight months, with hybrids representing a notable 25 percent of that total.

Within Hyundai, the NACTOY recognition is also being presented as a broader statement about the brand’s long-term North American commitment. The company points to continued investment in local product development, design, and manufacturing, positioning PALISADE as evidence that its market-specific strategy is delivering measurable results.

Looking ahead, Boyle suggested that U.S. SUV buyers will increasingly demand three priorities at once: affordability without feeling downgraded, powertrain choice without confusion, and technology that builds trust rather than creating stress. In her view, brands that succeed will be those that deliver vehicles that feel purpose-built for everyday American life — a direction Hyundai says is reflected not only in PALISADE’s hybrid expansion, but also in its growing XRT approach.

With its NACTOY win, PALISADE appears to strengthen Hyundai’s standing in the segment by reinforcing a simple message: real-world comfort, intuitive safety, and practical usability can be just as decisive as headline specs — and increasingly, they may define where the market goes next.
