Porsche 911 Tops Andorra's Car Sales in 2024: A Unique Market Phenomenon
In 2024, the Porsche 911 led car sales in Andorra, with 83 units sold, according to JATO Dynamics. Discover how economic factors and tax benefits shape the country's preference for luxury vehicles.
In the world of car sales, it’s rare to see a premium sports car dominating a country’s bestseller list. Yet, that’s precisely what happened in 2024 in Andorra—a small principality nestled in the eastern Pyrenees. Leading the nation’s car sales was none other than the Porsche 911, a model seldom found at the top of such rankings elsewhere.
According to data from automotive research firm JATO Dynamics, Andorrans purchased 83 units of the Porsche 911 throughout the year, securing its position as the country’s top-selling vehicle. In comparison, its closest competitor—the sporty Toyota GR Yaris—sold 47 units. Porsche further cemented its success with two additional models in the top five: the Cayenne with 46 units sold and the Macan with 45 units. Rounding out the top five was the previous year’s best-seller, the Cupra Formentor, with 44 units sold.
Interestingly, despite this success, Porsche did not claim the top spot among car brands. That honor went to Mercedes-Benz, with 231 vehicles sold, although none of its models made it into the top 10. Porsche followed closely behind with 210 units, while Ford secured third place with 161 vehicles sold.
This unique trend can largely be attributed to Andorra’s high standard of living. According to the International Monetary Fund, the country’s GDP per capita stands at $68,600, making it one of the wealthiest nations globally. Moreover, its favorable tax policies encourage the purchase of luxury vehicles. Unlike neighboring Spain and France, where VAT rates are 21% and 20%, respectively, Andorra’s general consumption tax is only 4.5%, significantly reducing the overall cost of cars.
Globally, however, the picture is quite different. While more than 14,000 Porsche 911s were sold in the United States in 2024, the model did not even break into the country’s top 25. The world’s best-selling vehicle remained the Tesla Model Y, followed by the Toyota Corolla and Toyota RAV4, with America’s favorite, the Ford F-Series, ranking fourth.
Looking ahead, it’s likely that Andorra’s demand for luxury vehicles will remain strong. With a stable economy, high income levels, and favorable tax conditions, models like the Porsche 911 are unlikely to fall out of favor anytime soon. However, whether this sports car will continue to reign as the nation’s best-seller in 2025 remains to be seen. After all, in a small market like Andorra, consumer preferences can shift as swiftly as the Porsche 911 accelerates.
