Polestar Confirms Four New Electric Models by 2028
Polestar confirmed plans to launch four new electric models by 2028, including Polestar 5, 4 variant, next-gen 2 and Polestar 7. Read the full roadmap.
Polestar has announced the largest model expansion in its history, outlining plans to launch four new electric vehicles within three years. The company describes the move as its most ambitious product offensive since its inception.
The first to arrive will be the Polestar 5, a four-door Grand Tourer originally presented in 2025, with deliveries expected to begin in summer 2026. The car is built on the new 800-volt Polestar Performance Architecture and features a lightweight bonded aluminium structure. Two dual-motor versions are confirmed: up to 650 kW (884 hp) with 0–100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, and a 550 kW (748 hp) variant. Depending on configuration, WLTP range reaches up to 678 kilometres. Polestar positions the 5 as its halo model, showcasing performance and advanced engineering.
Later in 2026, with first deliveries expected in the fourth quarter, a new variant of the Polestar 4 will follow. The current Polestar 4 is already the brand’s bestseller, and the upcoming version is aimed at a broader audience through increased versatility. Industry reports suggest it could adopt a more practical interpretation, potentially featuring a conventional rear window instead of the camera-based solution used on the standard model. Official technical specifications have not yet been disclosed.
In early 2027, Polestar plans to introduce a fully new generation of the Polestar 2, the model that established the brand’s global presence. The company reports more than 190,000 units sold to date. The next-generation car is expected to play a central role in Polestar’s future strategy, although detailed technical data has not been released.
By 2028, the range will expand with the Polestar 7, a compact premium SUV scheduled to be produced in Europe at Volvo Cars’ plant in Košice, Slovakia. Entering the compact SUV segment aligns with market dynamics, as this category represents a significant share of European battery-electric vehicle sales. European production is also expected to strengthen the brand’s regional footprint.
Polestar states that 2025 marked its best year ever in retail sales despite geopolitical and economic challenges. For 2026, the company forecasts low double-digit volume growth and plans to expand its retail network by around 30 percent. The strategy focuses on disciplined growth and on strengthening its presence in key segments of the EV market.
Over the next three years, Polestar’s roadmap signals an accelerated expansion both in product portfolio and geographic reach, as the company seeks to secure a stronger position in the increasingly competitive electric vehicle landscape.
