BMW M Motorsport has officially unveiled the new BMW M2 Racing, set to become available to private customer teams starting from the 2026 season. The presentation took place at the DTM season opener in Oschersleben, emphasizing BMW's commitment to making a strong mark in the world of customer racing.
Based on the latest M2 generation (G87), the BMW M2 Racing delivers 230 kW (313 hp) and exceeds a top speed of 270 km/h. Designed with private teams in mind, the car offers high reliability, easy maintenance, and affordable operating costs, making it particularly appealing to newcomers and ambitious racers alike. The base version is priced at €98,000 (net) in the EU and is distributed through selected BMW M Motorsport dealers.
During intensive testing sessions, supported by BMW factory drivers including Jens Klingmann, the BMW M2 Racing demonstrated an impressive combination of performance and intuitive handling. According to BMW M Motorsport representatives, the focus during development was to create a race car that would deliver pure driving pleasure while remaining accessible and cost-efficient for private teams.
The official certification for specific FIA classes has not yet been announced. However, considering the strong customer racing tradition established by its predecessors like the M235i Racing and M2 CS Racing, expectations are high for the M2 Racing to achieve similar success.
Currently, there is no announcement of special editions or limited series for the BMW M2 Racing. However, given the rising demand in the customer racing market, future developments cannot be ruled out.
The BMW M2 Racing follows the legacy of the M235i Racing, M240i Racing, and M2 CS Racing models, promising an ideal balance between cost, quality, and authentic racing performance. BMW anticipates that the M2 Racing will establish a solid presence across national and international racing series, including iconic endurance events such as the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Professional support from BMW M Motorsport experts will ensure that teams and drivers are equipped with the resources they need to succeed.
