DTM 2025 kicks off with strong showings from Mercedes-AMG
DTM 2025 starts strong: Auer wins for Mercedes-AMG in Race 1, Güven stuns with Porsche in Race 2. Full results, standings and highlights from Oschersleben.
DTM 2025 roared to life in Oschersleben with a stellar opening weekend for Mercedes-AMG. On Saturday, Lucas Auer seized victory after inheriting pole position from Ben Green, who was disqualified for running an underweight Ferrari. It marked Auer’s 10th DTM win and his first in over 931 days — a long-awaited return to the top. Team Landgraf, returning to DTM this year, made a bold statement with the fastest pit stop of the race and clean execution on track.
Maro Engel, driving for Winward Racing, secured third place thanks to a strategic late pit stop, climbing from fifth on the grid. Jules Gounon attempted an early undercut but finished fifth, while rookie Tom Kalender made history as the youngest driver ever to start a DTM race, coming home 17th in his debut.
Sunday brought a twist, with Ayhancan Güven claiming his maiden DTM win in a Porsche after overtaking polesitter Gounon through a well-executed overcut. While Mercedes-AMG missed out on the win, they remain strong contenders — both Gounon and Auer now share second place in the drivers' standings, trailing only Güven. In the team rankings, Winward Racing holds a firm place in the top three, while Landgraf sits just outside that bracket but remains highly competitive.
Once again, Oschersleben proved its value as a cornerstone of the DTM calendar. The track's technical layout and variable pace created thrilling racing. The 2025 BoP reforms have tightened the field, and the calendar promises even more action ahead — with Norisring, Zandvoort, Spielberg, and Hockenheim still to come.
Equally significant was the atmosphere trackside: fans enjoyed a vibrant fan zone and pit walks that brought them closer to the drivers and cars. With such an electric opening round, DTM has set the tone for what promises to be a gripping season.
