Volvo Cars announces EX30 updates including new powertrains, V2L capability, redesigned UX and new interiors. Explore what changes for drivers.

Volvo is updating its smallest fully electric SUV, the EX30, with a broad set of changes that go beyond a routine model-year refresh. New entry-level powertrains, a redesigned user interface, Vehicle-to-Load capability and additional interior options together reshape a model that has already secured a strong position in Europe’s compact premium EV segment.

The most significant technical addition is a new 110 kW (150 PS) powertrain paired with a 51 kWh battery, offering up to 339 km of range under WLTP. It is positioned as an accessible configuration for daily commuting. For longer journeys, a 69 kWh battery option delivers up to 476 km WLTP. The line-up continues to include the Twin Motor Performance variant with all-wheel drive and 315 kW (428 PS), accelerating from 0–100 km/h in about 3.6 seconds, making it one of the fastest production Volvos to date.

Charging capability varies by version. AC charging is available at up to 11 or 22 kW depending on specification, while DC fast charging reaches up to 153 kW. For the larger battery version, reaching 80% charge in roughly 25–27 minutes under fast-charging conditions has been indicated, although actual times depend on temperature and operating factors.

Software is another focal point of the update. Volvo has redesigned the settings structure and control layout, bringing frequently used functions closer to the main interface and introducing a customizable content bar for predictive or priority actions. Both the new user experience and the activation of Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) are planned to roll out via over-the-air updates during the summer, extending availability to existing EX30 owners as well as new customers.

The V2L function enables the EX30 to act as a power source for external devices, from electric bicycles to tools and camping equipment. An adapter is required, and availability will initially be limited to selected markets. Official technical figures regarding maximum output have not been detailed in the published material.

The EX30 Cross Country range is also expanding, adding a Plus trim level and a more efficient single-motor option. With its distinctive exterior elements and positioning, the Cross Country version targets customers seeking a more adventure-oriented interpretation of the compact electric SUV.

Inside, two new design themes are introduced. The “Harvest” interior combines light-toned recycled textiles with dark flax décor, while the “Black” interior delivers a deep, monochrome look using Nordico upholstery with contrasting stitching. The EX30 Black Edition is now available with the new black interior, and exterior colour choices include Onyx Black, Vapour Grey and Crystal White.

Market performance underlines the importance of the model. In Germany, the EX30 has recorded solid registration figures, and in European EV sales reports it has ranked prominently within its segment. Production, initially based in China, has also started in Ghent, Belgium, reinforcing the model’s strategic relevance for Volvo.

With these updates, Volvo positions the EX30 as a central pillar in its push for electrified growth. As demand for premium entry-level electric vehicles continues to expand, the refreshed EX30 is set to play a key role in broadening the brand’s fully electric footprint across markets.
