Porsche Penske Motorsport clinches first and second in Laguna Seca IMSA round; Jaminet and Campbell win, Nasr and Tandy finish close second.

Porsche Penske Motorsport continued its dominant run in the 2025 IMSA season with a powerful performance at California’s Laguna Seca. In a race marked by the rare absence of any caution periods—a first in nearly three years—the factory team secured an impressive one-two finish, showcasing the strength of the Porsche 963 and masterful strategic execution.

This time, it was Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell who stood on the top step of the podium, claiming their first win of the season. Their teammates, Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy, who had won the previous three races in Daytona, Sebring, and Long Beach, finished just 1.692 seconds behind. While the No. 6 crew slightly closed the gap in the drivers' standings, Porsche as a whole tightened its grip across all championship categories.

The race unfolded as a tense strategic battle. The two Porsche 963s started second and third but quickly became embroiled in a tight duel with BMW. The final laps delivered edge-of-seat action as the top three cars fought wheel-to-wheel. The drama culminated in the No. 24 BMW sliding into the gravel after a desperate move, sealing another Porsche one-two.

In the GTD-Pro class, Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler stole the spotlight. Driving the pink-liveried Porsche 911 GT3 R dubbed “Roxy,” they clinched their second win of the year. The victory mirrored AO Racing’s breakthrough at the same track in 2024 with the iconic “Rexy.” This time, the team stayed out of trouble and built an 8.660-second margin over the Ferrari in second place.

Not all was smooth sailing, however. Customer team JDC-Miller MotorSports, with Gianmaria Bruni and Tijmen van der Helm, ended up ninth in the GTP class, two laps behind. A lack of pre-race testing and the unusually uninterrupted race pace limited their chances to recover ground through strategy.

Next up: Detroit. On May 31, the IMSA series moves inland for a short 100-minute sprint on the city’s tight street circuit. With momentum and consistency on their side, Porsche Penske Motorsport enters as the clear favorite—though internal competition between their two crews is heating up.
