CUPRA has revealed the updated Born electric hatchback with new design, improved interior, extended range and added technology ahead of its market launch in 2026.

CUPRA has unveiled an updated version of its first fully electric model, the Born hatchback. The car receives a noticeable design refresh, a redesigned interior and a wider range of technologies while continuing to represent the brand’s core idea of combining electrification with sporty character.

The exterior moves closer to the brand’s latest design language. The front now adopts the so-called “shark nose” styling seen on newer CUPRA models. It is complemented by triangular Matrix LED headlights, while the rear features an illuminated brand logo integrated into the tail-light signature. The bumpers have been redesigned as well, and new wheel designs are available.

Inside, the cabin has also been significantly updated. New door panels have been introduced along with a redesigned steering wheel that brings back physical control buttons. The digital instrument display grows to 10.25 inches, while a 12.9-inch infotainment screen takes center stage with an updated operating system. An augmented-reality head-up display is also available.

The electric lineup includes several powertrain configurations. The entry version uses a 140 kW motor paired with a 58 kWh battery. The next version delivers 170 kW and uses a larger 79 kWh battery pack. At the top of the range, the Born VZ produces 240 kW (326 hp) with the same 79 kWh battery. For the larger battery versions, CUPRA states a driving range of up to 600 kilometres WLTP, while the 58 kWh version is expected to reach around 450 kilometres.

Fast charging for the 79 kWh battery can reach up to 185 kW, allowing the battery to recharge from around 10 to 80 percent in roughly half an hour. The most powerful Born VZ can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of around 200 km/h.

Among the technological additions are a one-pedal driving mode, allowing acceleration and braking to be controlled with a single pedal, and a Vehicle-to-Load function that enables the car’s battery to power external devices. Driver-assistance systems have also been upgraded, including a new intersection assist and improved active safety functions.

The model was designed and developed in Barcelona, but production will take place at Volkswagen’s plant in Zwickau, Germany, one of the group’s key electric-vehicle manufacturing sites. Production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with the market launch expected in the summer of the same year.

Official pricing for the updated CUPRA Born has not yet been announced. Automotive publications suggest the starting price could be around €40,000, placing the model in the compact electric car segment where it will compete with vehicles such as the Volvo EX30 and Kia EV3. As competition intensifies in this class, the updated Born is expected to reinforce CUPRA’s positioning as a brand focusing on more emotional design and a sporty character in electric vehicles.
