Audi presents A2 e-tron as new entry-level EV family
Audi has introduced the A2 e-tron, a new entry-level electric model family set for 2026, expanding its compact EV lineup and production in Ingolstadt. Learn more.
Audi is introducing a new entry-level electric model family — the A2 e-tron — positioning it as a key step in expanding its EV lineup. The model is set to debut in fall 2026 and is aimed at making electric mobility within the brand more accessible.
The A2 e-tron is designed as a compact and efficient vehicle for everyday use. Audi emphasizes customer demand for practical electric cars with strong digital connectivity and usability in urban environments. This focus aligns with broader market trends, as the share of battery-electric vehicles in the EU continues to grow, particularly in major European cities.
This model will strengthen the lower end of Audi’s electric portfolio, where the brand currently lacks a true entry-level offering. At present, the Q4 e-tron represents the most accessible electric Audi, while the A2 e-tron is expected to lower that entry point. The move fits into Audi’s broader strategy of systematically expanding its EV range and covering all key market segments.
The name itself is a deliberate reference to the original Audi A2 from the early 2000s. That model stood out for its lightweight aluminum construction and strong focus on efficiency. Although it did not achieve major commercial success at the time, Audi now revisits the concept in a fully electric form, carrying forward the same core ideas of compactness and efficiency.
Production of the A2 e-tron will take place in Ingolstadt, Audi’s main manufacturing site, which has already been adapted for electric vehicle production and includes its own battery assembly. The facility operates with net-zero emissions and plays a central role in the company’s transition, with the new model also contributing to securing jobs in Germany.
So far, Audi has revealed only limited details. A design sketch has shown the silhouette of the vehicle, while technical specifications — including range, drivetrain, and platform — have not yet been disclosed. The A2 e-tron is part of a broader 2026 product strategy, alongside the planned launch of the full-size Audi Q9.
With the A2 e-tron, Audi is not just adding another model but targeting a fast-growing segment. The company is positioning itself to attract a broader audience by offering a compact electric vehicle with a premium approach in a market that continues to expand.
