Volkswagen ID. Cross electric SUV preview and details
Volkswagen previews the ID. Cross electric SUV, set for a 2026 European launch with multiple power options, up to 420 km range and fast charging capability.
Volkswagen has brought its near-production ID. Cross to the streets of Amsterdam, previewing a compact electric SUV set to launch in Europe in autumn 2026 with a starting price of around €28,000. Even in camouflage, the model already outlines a clear strategy: entering the affordable EV segment with a practical, everyday vehicle.
The ID. Cross targets a broad audience with three power outputs — 85, 99 and 155 kW — paired with two battery options of 37 and 52 kWh. The larger battery supports DC fast charging up to 105 kW, allowing a 10–80% recharge in roughly 24 minutes. Depending on configuration, the range can reach up to about 420 km (WLTP), with smaller battery versions focused on urban use and larger ones designed for more versatile driving.
Measuring around 4.15–4.16 metres in length, the model sits close to the T-Cross in size but benefits from the MEB+ platform’s packaging efficiency. With a wheelbase of about 2.6 metres, it offers seating for five and a luggage capacity ranging from 450 to 475 litres, complemented by a small front storage compartment.
Technically, the ID. Cross is built on the updated MEB+ architecture with front-wheel drive and newly developed power electronics, including an in-house inverter. Battery chemistry differs by version, with LFP used for the smaller pack and NMC for the larger one, reflecting a balance between cost and performance.
The interior focuses on digital functionality and driver assistance. It features a 10.25-inch digital cockpit and a 12.9-inch infotainment display, along with systems such as Connected Travel Assist with traffic light recognition, Park Assist Plus and over-the-air updates. Higher trims include features typically found in more expensive vehicles, such as a Harman Kardon sound system and massage seats.
The ID. Cross is part of Volkswagen’s broader push into affordable electric mobility, alongside models like ID.2all, ID. GTI Concept and ID. EVERY1, all scheduled to arrive from 2026. Together, they form a new entry-level EV segment aimed at scaling production and lowering costs across the group.
