Mercedes-Benz presents CLA Shooting Brake hybrid with 48V system
Mercedes-Benz unveils the CLA Shooting Brake hybrid with a 48V system, new MB.OS software, and advanced efficiency features. Explore specs and key details.
Mercedes-Benz has launched the hybrid CLA Shooting Brake in Europe with a 48-volt system — and this is no longer just a conventional mild hybrid, but a model capable of short periods of all-electric driving. In the compact premium wagon segment, this marks a notable shift, combining electrification, a new digital architecture, and everyday practicality.
The new version features a fully redesigned powertrain. At its core is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with a 22 kW electric motor integrated directly into an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The system is powered by a 48-volt lithium-ion battery with up to 1.3 kWh of capacity. This setup allows not only for a temporary electric boost, but also for electric-only driving in urban conditions under low load, as well as coasting at speeds of up to around 100 km/h. Energy recuperation works across all gears and can recover up to 25 kW.
The lineup includes five variants — from the CLA 180 to the CLA 220 4MATIC. System output ranges from 156 to 211 hp, with 0–100 km/h acceleration between 8.9 and 7.2 seconds. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.0–6.0 l/100 km, while CO₂ emissions range from 113 to 135 g/km. Prices in Germany start at €47,611.90.
Alongside its technical upgrades, Mercedes is emphasizing digital innovation. The CLA is the first model to feature the new MB.OS operating system, enabling over-the-air updates and continuous feature expansion. The latest-generation MBUX system integrates technologies from Microsoft and Google, focusing on personalization and more intuitive interaction with the driver.
Practicality remains a defining feature of the Shooting Brake. The luggage compartment offers 455 to 1,295 liters of space and includes an EASY-PACK tailgate, tie-down points, and a 12-volt socket. Standard safety equipment includes DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control, while the optional MB.DRIVE ASSIST package adds Level 2 functions such as lane-keeping assistance and assisted lane changes.
The hybrid version arrives alongside the fully electric CLA of the new generation. Both are built on the MMA platform, designed from the outset for electrified drivetrains. The electric CLA has already received a five-star Euro NCAP rating and was named one of the best-performing cars in 2025 testing, setting a benchmark for the entire lineup.
Within the compact wagon segment, the CLA Shooting Brake remains a rare offering with few direct competitors. This allows Mercedes-Benz to continue shaping its own niche, combining design, digital technology, and moderate electrification in a single package.
