BMW Art Cars by Calder, Lichtenstein, Warhol and Koons at The Aurora 2025
BMW Art Car World Tour stopped in Båstad for Aurora 2025, showcasing iconic rolling sculptures by Calder, Lichtenstein, Warhol, and Koons — marking 50 years of BMW Art Cars.
The vibrant stop of the BMW Art Car World Tour has just concluded in Båstad, Sweden, as The Aurora 2025 brought together car enthusiasts, art lovers, and Scandinavian design admirers from June 27 to 29 at Norrvikens Trädgårdar.
For the second year running, BMW partnered as the main force behind this unique event, turning the show into an open-air gallery where classic engineering and contemporary art meet under the Nordic sky.
The main highlight was the display of four legendary BMW Art Cars, celebrating half a century of the iconic collection. This rare gathering featured works by Alexander Calder, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and Jeff Koons — artists whose visions have transformed BMW models into “rolling sculptures” since 1975.
Each Art Car tells its own story. Calder’s BMW 3.0 CSL marked the starting point of this fusion between art and motorsport. Lichtenstein’s 320 Group 5 introduced comic-strip aesthetics that capture movement and speed. Warhol painted his M1 in just 23 minutes, translating the rush of racing into bold abstract strokes. Decades later, Koons revisited the concept of energy with the explosive colors and dynamic lines of the M3 GT2.
The Aurora was more than an exhibition — it was a showcase of rare BMW Classic models, including the 507, the 2002 Turbo, and the Z8, all standing alongside modern interpretations from BMW Individual. Visitors were offered a glimpse into the brand’s dedication to craftsmanship, history, and bespoke design.
Support from partners like J.P. Morgan Private Bank and Koenigsegg underlined the event’s position as a magnet for collectors and creative minds alike. As Stefan Teuchert, President & CEO of BMW Northern Europe, noted, BMW’s belief in the synergy between mobility and art remains as strong as ever.
With upcoming tour stops in Vienna, Hong Kong, and Munich, the BMW Art Car World Tour continues to build momentum. If The Aurora 2025 is any indication, the appetite for this blend of heritage and avant-garde is only set to grow further, keeping the road ahead as exciting as the legacy behind.
