Mercedes-Benz VLE covers 1,100 km from Stuttgart to Rome with only two 15-minute charges, showcasing the new Van Electric Architecture’s efficiency and comfort.

Mercedes-Benz is steadily paving the way for a new era of electric MPVs. The latest tests of the VLE model have proven that the innovative VAN.EA architecture is ready for real-world conditions. Two test vehicles covered nearly 1,100 kilometers — from Stuttgart through the winding Alps to sunny Rome — with just two short charging stops of only 15 minutes each.

The route was far from a test track: challenging mountain passes, long stretches of autobahn and the tight streets of Italian cities put the new platform to the test. Temperatures varied dramatically, from a cool 11 degrees Celsius in Stuttgart to a sweltering 33 degrees on arrival in Rome. Throughout the journey, the cabin remained at a comfortable 22 degrees, underlining the practicality and energy efficiency of the new design.

A key factor was the rear-axle steering system, which proved its worth on tight corners and narrow streets, ensuring agility and easy handling — qualities that matter in everyday use.

The company’s plans are clear: from 2026, VAN.EA will form the backbone for new Grand Limousines models. The line-up will include the flexible VLE and the even more luxurious VLS. The VLE is designed for families and business use, offering up to eight seats, generous space and high comfort. Meanwhile, the VLS aims to create an exclusive niche for premium shuttles and VIP transport.

Mercedes-Benz continues to reduce its carbon footprint: all factories run on 100% renewable energy, and the brand aims to cut CO₂ emissions by more than half by 2030 compared to 2020 levels. Exact figures for the upcoming models have not been disclosed yet, but the VLE’s test run shows that the ambition is backed by real results.

Competition is building up: rivals like the Ford E-Transit and Renault Master E-Tech are already in the game, but Mercedes is betting on premium appeal and advanced technology. There is no official word on pricing or pre-orders yet — first details are expected closer to the production launch.

The journey from Stuttgart to Rome is not just a test route — it’s a symbol of where the entire industry is heading: towards long range, everyday comfort and new benchmarks for electric MPVs.
