Discover the Volvo ES90, an all-electric sedan offering up to 700 km range, ultra-fast 800-volt charging, and sustainable design. Full details and updates inside.

Volvo Cars is steadily expanding its electric range — and the new ES90 sedan is the latest proof of this commitment. Series production will kick off in summer 2025, with the first European customers set to receive their flagship sedan within the year.

What sets the ES90 apart is its impressively low carbon footprint. The latest LCA report confirms that when charged on the regular European grid, its total lifecycle CO₂ emissions amount to 31 tonnes, dropping to 26 tonnes if powered by wind energy alone. That’s almost 50% lower than the S90 mild hybrid and significantly below the plug-in hybrid version.

A key highlight is the 800-volt architecture. Besides reducing weight through lighter components, it dramatically speeds up charging. Back in February, Volvo underscored that the ES90 can recover up to 300 km of range in just 10 minutes. Meanwhile, total driving range reaches up to 700 km (WLTP) in top trims.

Inside, the ES90 showcases Volvo’s clear focus on recycled and sustainable materials: nearly a third of the aluminium and 18% of the steel are recycled, alongside significant use of reused polymers. The cabin features FSC-certified wood and Nordico upholstery made from recycled PET bottles. Battery traceability is ensured by a blockchain-based “battery passport” developed with Circulor.

Production is based at Volvo’s Chinese plants in Cixi and Chengdu. Battery supplies come from major partners CATL and LG Chem, with an eye on closed-loop recycling of key raw materials.

Order books for the new sedan are already open. While Volvo keeps early figures under wraps, analysts expect fierce competition with the BMW i5, Mercedes EQE and Tesla Model S. The ES90 doesn’t just carry forward Volvo’s legacy — it marks a confident new benchmark for premium electric mobility in the years ahead.
