Fiat announced the Grande Panda has won the AUTOBEST 2026 Design Award, based on jury and public votes. Learn what shaped its recognition in Europe.

Fiat Grande Panda has been named Europe’s Best Car Design of 2026, winning the AUTOBEST CONQUEST Award in the design category. The result was determined not only by a jury of automotive journalists from 32 European countries, but also by public voting, which was introduced to the competition for the first time.

The model outperformed five finalists, reinforcing its position as one of the most noticeable cars in the European market. Both experts and everyday drivers evaluated not just styling, but also broader aspects such as technology and user-friendliness, which adds weight to its recognition in the design category.

Grande Panda stands out through a blend of retro inspiration and modern execution. Its exterior references the original 1980s Panda, reinterpreted with geometric lines, X-shaped lighting signatures and distinctive cube-like headlamps. Inside, the car features digital displays, a minimalist layout and the use of materials such as bamboo fiber and textiles, combining visual identity with practicality.

The broader context also matters. Grande Panda is the first model in FIAT’s new global product line and is built on the Stellantis Smart Car platform, which is already shared with other affordable models within the group. It is offered with petrol, mild hybrid and fully electric powertrains, with the electric version delivering a range of around 320 km (WLTP).

The structure of the award itself highlights the significance of the result. In 2026, AUTOBEST introduced public voting alongside expert evaluation, making the outcome reflect both professional judgment and real user preferences. This aligns with FIAT’s stated goal of creating accessible and user-friendly mobility solutions.

The design award for Grande Panda therefore goes beyond industry recognition, signaling that a combination of simplicity, recognizability and functionality resonates with both specialists and the wider public.
