Mercedes-Benz delivers 64 eSprinter vans to REWE in Berlin and Neuss, enhancing CO₂-free grocery distribution with expanded charging stations.

In Berlin, Mercedes-Benz handed over 40 fully electric eSprinter vans specially equipped for REWE’s delivery service. Another 24 vehicles will soon join the fleet in North Rhine-Westphalia, expanding the company’s eco-friendly logistics network.

Each eSprinter is powered by a robust 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor and an 81 kWh high-voltage battery. Built at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Ludwigsfelde, the vehicles were further customized by certified bodybuilders SOMMER and Spier to meet grocery delivery needs. With a spacious cargo box of around 18 m³, they can efficiently transport large volumes of orders.

Alongside the delivery of vehicles, REWE upgraded its fulfillment center in Berlin’s Tempelhof district, installing 42 charging stations. These allow the eSprinters to charge at up to 22 kW, enabling continuous and reliable delivery operations.

REWE’s decision to add electric vans to its fleet is part of its broader sustainability strategy aimed at reducing CO₂ emissions. In the Berlin-Brandenburg region alone, the company’s electric transport already cuts up to 189 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year.

The latest eSprinter generation offers battery options from 56 to 113 kWh, providing up to 440 kilometers of range (WLTP). With DC fast charging, up to 80% of the battery can be replenished in roughly half an hour, while city charging infrastructure enables overnight charging. These capabilities make the model well-suited for businesses with tight delivery schedules.

Production of the eSprinter takes place across three plants—in Ludwigsfelde, Düsseldorf, and Charleston in the U.S. Mercedes-Benz has invested around €350 million in developing its electric van lineup and plans to fully transition to the modular VAN.EA platform by 2025. This move is expected to increase production capacity and further boost the electric segment.

Fittingly, the expansion of REWE’s electric delivery fleet coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Sprinter and Vito models. While no major celebratory events have been announced yet, Mercedes-Benz emphasizes that partnerships like this showcase how iconic models are evolving into a new electric era.
