BMW Art Car Exhibition in Denmark Shows 11 Iconic Cars
BMW Group presents 11 Art Cars in Denmark at Classic Car House, marking 50 years of the collection. Explore key works and rare artist models on display.
The largest BMW Art Car exhibition ever held in Northern Europe has opened in Denmark, bringing together eleven iconic vehicles from the legendary series alongside ten original artist models rarely shown to the public.
The exhibition takes place at Classic Car House in Lyngby from March 27 to June 21, 2026, marking a major highlight of the global BMW Art Car World Tour celebrating the project’s 50th anniversary. For the first time in the region, such a масштабный selection of works is presented side by side.
The lineup includes cars created by some of the most influential artists of the past decades, including Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein and Jeff Koons. These vehicles have long moved beyond their engineering origins and are widely regarded as independent works of art, each reflecting the vision and style of its creator.
Alongside the finished cars, the exhibition introduces ten original maquettes — scale models used by artists to develop their concepts. These rarely displayed objects reveal how ideas evolved into the final “rolling sculptures,” offering insight into the creative process behind the collection.
The BMW Art Car project dates back to 1975, when Alexander Calder transformed a BMW 3.0 CSL into a racing artwork that competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Since then, the collection has grown to twenty cars, created by artists working across movements from pop art to conceptual art, with several vehicles also appearing in motorsport.
The Danish exhibition forms part of a global tour spanning more than 30 countries and major cultural events such as Art Basel, Le Mans and Goodwood. The tour began in 2025 and will conclude in summer 2026 with the largest exhibition in the history of the collection at BMW Welt in Munich.
Opened in 2023, Classic Car House provides a fitting setting for the exhibition. The 25,000-square-metre venue combines a museum, workshop and storage facilities, housing around 300 classic cars. Within this environment, the Art Cars are presented not as isolated objects, but as part of a broader cultural narrative where the automobile is both a technical achievement and an artistic medium.
