Porsche Presents Refined 911 GT3 R with Aerodynamic and Suspension Enhancements

Porsche launches the 2026 911 GT3 R with improved aerodynamics, suspension, and standard packages, offering better handling and upgrade kits for 992 models.
Porsche is preparing an updated version of its 911 GT3 R for the 2026 season, retaining the proven strengths of its predecessor while introducing a series of targeted refinements. Since its debut in 2023, the car has built an impressive record of titles and victories, including the unofficial GT3 World Championship for manufacturers in the Intercontinental GT Challenge, top results in all three GTD Pro classes of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and wins on iconic tracks such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Nürburgring.
For the new generation, engineers focused on aerodynamics and suspension to deliver even more stable and predictable handling. Ventilation “louvres” on the front wheel arches reduce nose compression under braking, while revised suspension kinematics cut down on pitch sensitivity. At the rear, a swan-neck wing with a Gurney flap and updated multi-link suspension improve load distribution during acceleration.
Attention has also been given to operational details crucial for race teams: enhanced cooling for the steering system, ceramic wheel bearings, improved driveshaft and brake cooling, and better in-cockpit ventilation. The RLU system now enables rapid USB data extraction during pit stops without the need for cable connections.
Several packages once offered as optional are now standard, from advanced sensor sets to a rear-view camera. For existing 992-generation cars, Porsche will release around 60 upgrade kits priced from €41,500 before tax, allowing teams to modernize without purchasing a new chassis. A brand-new 911 GT3 R will cost approximately €573,000.
Testing took place at Porsche’s Weissach facilities and on circuits including Sebring, Paul Ricard, Spa-Francorchamps, and the Nürburgring. A key moment came in April at the 12H Spa-Francorchamps, where a Herberth Motorsport test car secured second place. These results suggest the 2026 model is well positioned to strengthen Porsche’s presence in the global GT3 arena.
